Beyond the office
Philanthropy and community service play a large role in Don’s life. As Canada’s delegate for Oikocredit International in 2010, he filmed and produced a documentary of a study tour of microcredit institutions and clients in Uganda. Additionally, he has organized benefit concerts to raise awareness and funding for local and international non-profit organizations. Don has also supported the Victoria Raise a Reader campaign, and he has served as a director of Primary Schools for Africa (a Victoria-based charity that designs and funds schools in Tanzania).

Don has spent his life in British Columbia. He was born and raised in Burnaby, moved to Vernon in 1976, and settled in Victoria in 1983. He and his wife, Cheryl, enjoy cycling the local trails, they are experienced SCUBA divers, and they have weathered several coastal and offshore sailing trips.
